
WWF SmackDown ! pulled away from Street Fighter Alpha 3 in the last few days, but came up just shy of passing Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Thing is, there was a downright crazy race for that second slot. There's no doubt that this fighter spawned legions of new fans and secured millions of others for life. In fact, this game occupies that lofty critic score plateau that only includes the likes of Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid in the 32-bit generation, and that's impressive.

The fighting mechanic was borderline flawless for the time, and those visuals were pretty damn good, too.
